On the way through school, I read Carroll, Stevenson, Dickens, Eliot and D H Lawrence; John Steinbeck, J D Salinger and Harper Lee. And lots of poetry.
University was given over to drama; from Shakespeare to Harold Pinter. And in the theatre, to Joe Orton, Howard Brenton, David Hare. Then on to the emerging talents of contemporary television writers.
But along the way, I found crime fiction. That’s what I have always read for pleasure. And now, I have begun to write it for a living. Amazingly, the wheel has come full circle.
